HELLO. I AM OLGA.
Recipe developer, former food magazine editor-in-chief, food photographer, and the creator of Weeknight Flame.
I create easy, colorful recipes that turn simple ingredients into meals worth gathering around — even on the busiest weeknights.

Hi, I’m Olga Bux, the recipe developer, food stylist, and creator behind Weeknight Flame.
Welcome to Weeknight Flame! I’m Olga, a recipe developer, home cook, food photographer, and mom of three. I have been creating recipes for more than 16 years, combining professional culinary experience with the practical realities of cooking for a family.

For six years, I worked as the editor-in-chief of a culinary magazine in Moldova. I developed and edited recipes, planned culinary content, worked with chefs and other food professionals, and helped bring new cooking ideas to readers.
Over the years, I have also consulted restaurants, helped develop dishes and culinary concepts, and organized food festivals and other culinary events. These experiences taught me to look at a recipe from every angle: flavor, technique, presentation, accessibility, nutritional value, and the way people will actually prepare and enjoy it at home.
Weeknight Flame is where I bring all of that experience together.
My Culinary Background
My work with food began long before Weeknight Flame. For more than 16 years, I have been developing, testing, writing, styling, and photographing recipes.

As the editor-in-chief of a culinary magazine for six years, I was responsible for much more than simply selecting recipes. My work involved planning issues, developing culinary themes, editing instructions, coordinating food content, and making sure every recipe was clear, useful, and appealing to the reader.

Working with restaurants gave me another perspective on food. I learned to think carefully about how ingredients work together, how a dish should be presented, and how recipes can be adapted for different kitchens, occasions, and audiences.

Organizing culinary festivals allowed me to connect with chefs, food producers, restaurants, and people who share a genuine love of cooking. It also showed me how naturally food brings people together, whether it is served at a large public event or around a family dinner table.

Today, I use all of that experience to create dependable recipes for home cooks.

How Motherhood Changed the Way I Cook
After my third child was born, I became seriously interested in nutrition and began learning more about how the food we eat supports our health and development.

I already had years of experience working with recipes, ingredients, flavor, and food quality. But motherhood encouraged me to look at food from another perspective. I began combining everything I knew about making food delicious and visually appealing with a growing understanding of its nutritional value.
I wanted my children to grow up healthy and receive a wide variety of important nutrients from the meals we ate every day. This made me think more intentionally about the ingredients I used and the balance of our family meals.

I started paying closer attention to variety, vegetables, fruit, legumes, whole grains, nuts, seeds, protein sources, and the different colors and textures that make food both nutritious and enjoyable. I also learned that a wholesome family meal does not need to be complicated or restrictive.
This interest in nutrition did not replace my love of flavor. It expanded it.
I believe food should nourish us, but it should also bring pleasure, comfort, and connection. A balanced approach to eating can include colorful salads, vegetable soups, hearty grain bowls, homemade muffins, creamy pasta, and a slice of cake shared with the people you love.
You will find all of those things on Weeknight Flame. My approach is not about perfection or rigid food rules. It is about using good ingredients thoughtfully, enjoying a varied diet, and creating meals that families genuinely want to eat.

The Story Behind Weeknight Flame
I created Weeknight Flame with one simple idea in mind: homemade food can be easy enough for a busy weekday and still feel special.
A memorable dinner doesn’t always require complicated techniques, expensive ingredients, or hours of preparation. Sometimes all you need is a dependable recipe, a few good ingredients, and clear instructions that help you feel confident in the kitchen.
As a mother of three, I understand how different everyday cooking can be from creating a restaurant dish or styling food for a photograph. There are evenings when you have time to enjoy the process, and there are evenings when dinner simply needs to be ready.
The recipes on Weeknight Flame are created with both kinds of days in mind. They combine my professional experience with the lessons I have learned from feeding a real family day after day.

How My Recipes Are Created
Every recipe published on Weeknight Flame is prepared, tested, styled, photographed, and written by me.

I cook each dish in my own kitchen using the same kinds of ingredients and equipment available to most home cooks. While developing a recipe, I pay attention to flavor, texture, cooking time, ingredient proportions, and the small details that can determine whether a dish works.
I also consider the questions a reader may have along the way. How large should the vegetables be cut? What should the batter look like? How do you know when the dish is ready? Can an ingredient be replaced? Can the recipe be prepared ahead of time?
My editorial experience has taught me that a successful recipe should do more than provide a list of ingredients. It should guide the reader through the entire process and make cooking feel manageable.
When appropriate, I also consider how ingredients can add more variety and nutritional value to a meal without sacrificing flavor. That may mean adding vegetables, incorporating nuts or seeds, using legumes or whole grains, or suggesting a practical substitution.
Because ingredients, measurements, and cooking habits can differ between countries, I adapt the recipes on Weeknight Flame for American home cooks. Whenever possible, I use familiar ingredient names, provide practical substitutions, and include both US customary and metric measurements.
My Cooking Style
My cooking is inspired by everyday family meals, seasonal produce, European traditions, Mediterranean flavors, travel, and the dishes I have encountered throughout my professional work.
I love food that feels comforting but still fresh and colorful: creamy pasta with juicy tomatoes, roasted vegetables, warm homemade bread, satisfying salads, fruit-filled muffins, and soups served with crunchy toppings.
I enjoy finding ways to make everyday meals more varied and nourishing while preserving the flavors and textures that make people excited to eat them.
I also believe that beautiful food does not have to be complicated. A handful of fresh herbs, toasted seeds, ripe fruit, or a simple drizzle of sauce can transform an everyday dish.
You won’t find unnecessary perfection here. Homemade food may look a little different each time you prepare it, and that is completely normal. What matters is that the recipe works, the flavors come together, and the finished meal is something you are happy to serve.
Food Through My Camera

Food photography is another important part of my work. I prepare and photograph the dishes you see on Weeknight Flame, paying close attention to the colors, textures, and details that make homemade food feel inviting.
The photographs show the actual recipes I cook. My goal is not only to inspire you but also to give you a helpful idea of what the finished dish can look like.
When I’m not developing a recipe, you’ll often find me behind the camera, styling food, exploring seasonal produce, visiting a local market, or planning my next cooking project.
