Ingredients

  • 2 large firm-ripe pears
  • 2 tablespoons honey divided
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon optional
  • 1 cup about 140 g vanilla ice cream, divided into 4 small scoops
  • ¼ cup 25–30 g shelled pistachios, roughly chopped

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Wash and dry the pears. Cut them in half lengthwise and use a teaspoon or melon baller to remove the cores and seeds.
  3. Arrange the pear halves cut side up in a baking dish.
  4. Drizzle the pears with 1 tablespoon of honey. Sprinkle with cinnamon, if using.
  5. Pour 2 tablespoons of water into the bottom of the baking dish.
  6. Bake for 25–35 minutes, until the pears are tender when pierced with a knife but still hold their shape.
  7. Remove the pears from the oven and let them cool for 3–5 minutes.
  8. Place one small scoop of vanilla ice cream on each pear half.
  9. Drizzle with the remaining honey or syrup from the baking dish and sprinkle with chopped pistachios. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Bosc and Anjou pears hold their shape particularly well during baking.
  • The baking time will vary depending on the variety, size, and ripeness of the pears.
  • Maple syrup can be used instead of honey.
  • Replace the pistachios with walnuts, pecans, almonds, or hazelnuts if desired.
  • Store baked pears without the toppings in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
  • Nutrition information is an estimate and will vary depending on the pears, honey, and ice cream used.
